(5-65): Insert a minus sign after “Mk =” and note that the last relation for Qk is valid for v << 1. Pedagogic aid: For v a significant fraction of the speed of light 1, and for more insight on (6-22), see www.quantumfieldtheory.info/Spinor_Lorentz_transf.pdf and the references in the footnote on page 171 of Vol. 1. |

Pedagogic aid: Insert new sub-section between Sects. 7.5.3 and 7.5.4 with title “Leptons, Quarks, and Mass Matrices” and text as follows. “All of our work related to mass matrices can be summarized in a nutshell, as follows. · For quarks, we diagonalize the mass matrix, and · for leptons, we diagonalize the interaction (flavor) matrix (with the W bosons). Thus, · for quarks, the interaction (flavor) matrix (with the W bosons) is non-diagonal; and · for leptons, the mass matrix is non-diagonal.” |

Pedagogic aid: Just above Wholeness Chart 18-4, insert the following. “You may read in places that the total number of elementary particles is 25. By this counting there are 6 quarks, 3 charged leptons, 3 neutrinos, 3 intermediate vector bosons, 8 gluons, 1 photon, and 1 Higgs. Quark and lepton antiparticles are not counted. For example, the positron is not included, as it is the antiparticle of the electron. But for the bosons, antiparticles are included. The W- is the antiparticle of the W+, but both are counted. So, this method of counting seems internally inconsistent. However, in the high energy description, we have three W particles, the W1, W2, and W3, which are all different, none being an antiparticle of any other. So, with the high energy description, the elementary particle count of 25 is correct. Wholeness Chart 18-4 is for the low energy description.” |
